The Forth Bridges from Longniddry Bents

I left the Yaris’ lights on and the radio playing, I had to bump start across the dunes.

We watched the towers fall, gracefully turning and embracing each other in a final melancholic dance.

Arthur’s Seat from Longniddry Bents

Painting loosely is a path between the sobriety of control and technique and the relaxed tipsiness of flow and openness.

I painted this view over and over again and slept in the meadow in the afternoon.

Cove Harbour

Even totally lost in fog this tiny secret harbour is still magical. Once the sun came out the kids got coke and crisps on the beach.

Eight prints on painting and road racing.

One
Excuse Registration, The Saturday Ride, 9.30 Commie Pool

Its a training run but you still need to clarify early on why you might not be going so well, it doesn’t look good listing excuses after the event.

Brief Your Lead-Out Chain in the Neutral Zone, Whitecraig

It’s only training but its worth organising support when you can still speak.

You can just see the fast group taking the bend on the horizon, its good to believe you could catch them.

Three
No Overnight Camping, Wait at the Top, Hopetoun Hill

A training ride is often an unforgiving brutal thrash but on the Tuesday ride we wait at the top of Hopetoun Hill and regroup.
The sign at the car park is an ironic and pointed reminder to the heavier riders.

52 x 12, Luffness Golf Course

In Tim Krabbé’s great book ‘The Rider’ he starts a paragraph ‘Forty-three nineteen’, so he’s telling me its a tough climb (you need to know your gears).
If you are spinning 52 x 12 you are either very fit or going downhill fast.

Orange – Commie Pool

Blue – Commie Pool

Every Sunday I was never first to dive into the magical, still, dark blue of the deep end (16ft 6in) at Southampton Central Swimming Baths. Someone else stole the allure of the still surface. I really loved that colour and diving into the saturated blueness was the closest I’d ever get to actually being it.
